Are granite counter tops and ceramic tile floors in a kitchen remodel preferable for resale value?
Preferable, yes. The higher priced the house, the more such items are
desirable by buyers.
Hardwood floors in the kitchen are also in the
running.
It's all about kitchens and baths according to Realtors and TV home shows, so don't over look your bathrooms. Don't forget "curb appeal" either, or the prospective buyers won't ever see the kitchen or the baths.

Remember: By being the General Contractor (GC), determining building costs & hiring professionals (subcontractors) to do the actual work (Thats what a GC does), YOU can be your own General Contractor for ANY type of construction: New homebuilding to build your "Dream House"), room additions, remodeling older homes; Build log homes, kit homes, even renovate foreclosures. Since you are the "Boss," YOU can chose your own house plans or home plans, YOU can design your kitchen, YOU can decide to build "Green," build with Solar, Wind, geothermal heat pumps, or anything else YOU desire, and YOU can do it for a lot LESS!
